Athlete Aimee Mullins
“Born without fibulae in both legs, Aimee’s medical prognosis was discouraging; she was told she would never walk, and would likely spend the rest of her life using a wheelchair. In an attempt for an outside chance at independent mobility, doctors amputated both her legs below the knee on her first birthday. The decision paid off. By age two, she had learned to walk on prosthetic legs, and spent her childhood doing the usual athletic activities of her peers: swimming, biking, softball, soccer, and skiing, always alongside “able-bodies” kids.”

There have been countless accounts of violence recorded during the uprisings in Egypt but the image that perhaps has captured the most attention is the most recent. The image has been widely referred to as the “girl in the blue bra.”
A veiled young woman is dragged and beaten by Egyptian military during a protest in Cairo’s Tahrir Square. Her face is covered. Her torso is bare, except for her bright-blue bra, which is a millisecond away from being kicked by a solider. - NPR Picture Show (photo-Reuters/Landov)
Short Steve Jobs story…
A couple of years ago, I suggested that an intern at Avatar buy a Mac laptop. She was a broke college student so she convinced her grandmother to buy her one. She had the laptop delivered to her dorm at UCLA.
Long story short, the computer was never delivered. Fedex wouldn’t accept responsibility, UCLA wouldn’t accept responsibility, the campus police said the security cameras showed no package being delivered on the day it was supposedly “signed for”. I called Apple customer service and and spoke to a supervisor who said it would take a couple of weeks to look into the situation, speak to fedex, file insurance claim, etc. I told the customer service dude, “i have a crying girl in my office who just wants her computer. I will be sending you an email expressing my frustration and copying Steve Jobs”. He said, “uh, uh, uh… OK…
I emailed the customer service guy and copied Steve Jobs. 3 hours later a smiling intern came into my office and said, “I just got a call from Evan at Apple in some guy named Steve Jobs’ office. He said I will have my computer tomorrow!!!” I said, “Do you know who Steve Jobs is?” She said, “No, who is he”. I said, “He’s the CEO of the whole fucking company!!!” She looked at me with a blank expression on her face as if to say, “whatever… all I know is I’m happy to be getting my computer”.
the next day, Fedex arrived with a brand new mac book. I had a smiling intern in the office.
Farewell Steve. And thank you.
